Concerned Citizen... note taken... I know I have it.. but it is auto-drafted out of my checking account. ... It seems though.. Onstar would locate a stolen car for the police even if the service is not active... like a cellphone with no service will still let you call 911.

Aphafemale services like Onstar is not free. From what I know of the service its only typically free for a few months after you purchase the vehicle and then you have to pay for the service. My guess would be that while this vehicle might be equiped with onstar that the service was not active.

Somehing else I have always been told is to not allow every door to door salesman that shows up at your door inside your house. Meaning to step outside to talk to them if you are interested. Get an alarm system and use it. I keep it set at all times. After everyone is inside for the night I set it on instant so that as soon as an exterior door is opened it will go off. This way if a door is kicked open I know without a doubt what has happened.

What to do to protect yourself ... someone asked ... Lock your doors. Dont sit inside your house at night with the curtains open so everyone that drives by can see inside your home. This encourages theives to breakin since they can already see items of value from outside. In the mind of the average criminal, they break in when they expect the monetary gain to higher then the risk of getting caught. Far too many people leave doors unlocked or dont have curtains or blinds up to there windows so that everyone can see the big screen TV sitting in there living room. All this does is make thieves curious to what else of value might be inside. On Saturday evenings my wife and I will sometimes drive thru neighborhoods to look at houses after we go out to eat. Its shocking the number of homes where people dont bother to put up curtains/blinds or they dont bother to close them at night. Thieves dont just pick houses at random they scope them out in many cases.

This goes to show that even at home you must not be complacent. Which is why I try to keep a pistol on me or within reach at all times when I am at home. Its sad to say but in this day in age it has gotten that bad.

A 2000 Cadillac doesn't have Onstar in it? It is standard equipment on all Devilles starting in 1997. Location of that vehicle should have been immediate. Those guys should have been picked up within minutes. WOW.. I'm not a cop and I know that.
