Les Garner's Funeral Friday

Funeral plans have been announced for Les Garner of Greenville. The former mayor of Greenville will be laid to rest Friday. The funeral is at 11 a.m. in the Christian Life Ministry Center at St. James United Methodist Church in Greenville. A burial will follow at Pinewood Memorial Park with Masonic Rites.

The Garner Family will also receive friends Wilkerson Funeral Home Thursday from 4 to 7 p.m. and other times at the home of Griff and Christie Garner, 4104 Hardwick Court.

Onetime mayor and longtime Greenville community leader Les Garner has passed away.

Friends say Garner died at PCMH Monday after falling over the weekend and hitting his head on brick steps. Garner was 89.

Garner was mayor in Greenville in the 1980's and well known for his community involvement, particularly with the Kiwanis. He's credited with staring over 50 Kiwanis clubs.

Garner was recently honored by the Pitt-Greenville Chamber of Commerce with the Legends Award for his contributions to the Greenville community.
