Skylight Inn Goes Up In Flames Once Again

Embers from a wildfire burned a part of a well known restaurant in Pitt County authorities say.

For the second time in the past year, the smokehouse at the Skylight Inn Barbecue Restaurant in Ayden went up in flames Thursday.

The smokehouse where the meat is cooked is the only part of the restaurant the fire damaged. The main dining area is still intact. The Ayden fire department says the wind started the trouble.

The Skylight Inn does not know the full extent of the damage, but they hope to re-open in a couple of days.

BBQ is pig in Eastern NC. It can also be ribs, and anything cooked on a grill.

Jimmy that is very sad that you drive all that way just for some pig meat that tastes the same anywhere you go.

I grew up near Ayden but have lived in Virginia for the past 40 years but I still drive the 160 miles once in a while to get a taste of Jones BBQ and take some back.

The Skylight Inn has been around a long time. I used to take my mother there on Saturdays from Oak City. I now go there about 1 every 2 months with my husband. It is the best BBQ around here. Cooked with wood and chopped on that oak board. The best pig with a special Vinegar sauce that only Pete can make. Good Luck and hurry back

Come on now R-Truth don't you know that good ol' fashioned BBQ in Eastern NC is pig meat with that nasty ketchup or vinegar sauce?

Sorry to hear about this incident. However, barbecue is considered to be hamburgers, hot dogs, chicken, and steak.

Barbecue is some of the worst food I've ever eaten.

Wow, I was just talking about how great their BBQ was the other day...and how they were featured in so many "foodie" magazines as one of the TOP BBQ places in the south. I hope they get back cooking asap. It would be a shame to lose the best BBQ I have ever had!
