Dead Dog Found Tied To Stump

Police in one Eastern Carolina town need your help in solving a case on animal cruelty where the dog died.

Winterville police say they found a dog tied to a stump in an empty lot near Worthington & Railroad streets Sunday afternoon. The lot is at the site for the train depot.

Police say a bottle of starter fluid was found beside the dog, and attempts were unsuccessful by police in lifting any fingerprints off the container.

No other information was available from police about the dog.

If anyone has information about this animal cruelty case they're urged to call Winterville police.

The starter fluid which is mainly ether main have been used to put the dog to sleep but then I can't figure out why they tied him to a tree. whatever happened the dog didn't deserve it.

Dogs and cats are a responsibility. You have to protect them like you would children since they really cannot protect themselves and rely on the owner. You do not put a dog on a chain or chain them ever if you are responsible in the first place. Setting the dog on fire shows the act of meaness beyond my understanding. In these times of falling morals, yes, no prayer in school and removing religion from "childrens" lives, the destruction is in process. Acts like this prove it beyond a reasonable doubt. So the next time you hear of the commandments and religion removed from public locations, think of an innocent dog tied to a tree and set on fire. Maybe you will get it. Children need discipline and morals as part of development. Without it, this is normal behavior and anything goes. Folks, this goes all the way to the top of government.

Attention spay&nueter: parents do not kill their children by tying them to trees unless the child is vicious. Wake up! there are some people in this world who are mean and evil and enjoy seeing people and animals suffer and die. Think of the cats that are burned. martin county had a pup that some one had taken a pair of shears or something similar and cut his ear. Why would people put two dogs in a cage to fight to the death and call it sport? Face it there is evil in this world and it is going to get worse. Not just toward our animals but to people as well.

Time to give our Doberman and our German Shepherd another big hug and tell them how much they are loved.

are you saying it that what they did to this dog was OK? because it was vicious? you don't know if the dog was vicious...and no one else knows that unless they know who killed the dog, because the dog was already dead when he was found. GET A GRIP! if an animal needs to be put down because it is vicious it should be done so by a licensed VET not a nasty kid with fire...or choking on fumes...how would you like to go?

It is sad to see these punks hurt an innocent dog like that. I hate to see it end up like this, but I assure you that the punks that did this horrible act will never get caught, because there is a sufficient lack of evidence that has been shown to the public. Does it seem like Eastern North Carolina is one of the worst places around for abused and neglected dogs (and cats)? It has been notorious for the last few years.

For the 1000th time, increase penalties...

can we get a description of the dog? If anyone has a clue who may have done this or was involved it would be the honorable thing, to come forward and tell authorities... you may be saving someone elses pet or even a child.
