Eastern Carolinians, ECU Students Get Ready For Possible Snow

For the second time in two weeks, people across eastern Carolina are preparing for the possibility of snow.

Road crews say they feel a little more prepared because we just had snow a couple of weeks ago.

Jeff Cabaniss with the DOT in Pitt County says, "Probably a third of our employees had never really worked in a snow storm before. So the last storm we had we were able to do a lot of training and that helps."

The last time area roads were covered in snow and ice the North Carolina Highway Patrol reported over 300 accidents within three days. The Department of Transportation says it's doing everything it can to keep the roads safe.

Despite the hazardous road conditions--some drivers say the snow is rare enough to enjoy. Barry Knowles says, "Yeah, I mean I'm excited about it ya know. I know it causes some road delays and that stuff but I'm really excited about it."

Sometimes excitement over the snow can turn into chaos. Students at ECU hope fellow classmates freeze any future snowball fights that made national headlines a few weeks ago.

Deidre Nixon says, "Knowing ECU, the kids will probably try to do it again. Maybe it's not going to be as big as it was first, but I hope it doesn't get the way it was last time." Jasmine MacDonald says, "I feel like no one is gonna get arrested. It'll probably get rowdy because we go to ECU, but I don't think anyone is going to get arrested."
