Greenville -- The ECJVC 13 Black team will compete in the 2012 USA Volleyball Girls Junior National Championships (JNC) held in Columbus, Ohio on June 29th to July 2nd. They qualified for this tournament by winning the Carolina Region bid tournament on April 14th in Greensboro, NC. The JNC attracts over 9,500 athletes and more than 20,000 spectators annually. The event, showcases top talent from across the nation and draws hundreds of college recruiters looking for future stars for their program. USA Volleyball is the governing body for the Carolina Region and US Olympic volleyball. This team has compiled an impressive record of 40 wins and 7 losses including 4 gold medals, 2 silver medals, 2 top ten finishes and finished 1st out of 72 teams in the Carolina Region point standings. They have competed in Richmond, Virginia, Atlanta, Georgia and all across North Carolina.
The ECJVC 16 Black team will compete in the 2012 AAU Girls Junior National Championships held in Orlando, FL on June 24th to June 27th. The AAU National Championship tournament draws teams from across the United States (including Hawaii) and Puerto Rico with more than 14,000 athletes participating. This event also attracts hundreds of college recruiters each year. The ECJVC 16’s have competed in state tournaments across North Carolina, Mid-Atlantic Power League tournaments, multi-state regional tournaments in Virginia and Atlanta, Georgia. They finished 7th out of 96 teams in the Carolina Region point standings.
Both teams will be coached by former ECU volleyball standout Kelley Wernert. She holds ECU’s all-time record in kills (1,620) including a single season record of 627 during her senior year in 2007. She began coaching with ECJVC in 2007 and was an ECU assistant coach for two seasons. In addition to coaching two teams, she also serves as ECJVC’s part time executive director of volleyball.

ECJVC is a 501(c) 3 non-profit organization dedicated to the education and promotion of youth volleyball in eastern North Carolina.
