Police say a woman was jailed on child abuse charges after she threw several objects at a young child in her house.
Pitt County Detention Center Deputies told WITN 26-year-old Nakema Telford was arrested by Greenville police around 1:30 a.m. Monday.
Telford is now facing charges of misdemeanor child abuse and assaulting a child under the age of 12.
A police spokeswoman says Telford was highly intoxicated at the time, while the child was not hit by any of the objects. A police report said it happened at a residence on Kristin Drive.
According to officials, more charges may be coming.
For now, Telford is being held on a $17,000 bond and had her first appearance this morning.
