$15,000 Dollars Worth Of Metal Stolen From Church

It's supposed to be a sacred place of worship, but instead it became a crime scene. Someone broke into a church in Pitt County and stole thousands of dollars worth of metal from their heating and cooling systems.

It happened at the Sweet Gum Grove Free Will Baptist Church in Stokes. Church Trustee Steve Williams says he got a call that the church was broken into and when he got there he found several heating and cooling systems torn apart, some of the metal from them stolen.

He estimates that metal was worth around $15,000 dollars, which is a big loss for the church.

Church member Ginger Briley says, "It is very devastating, being I love this church so much, to know that somebody came in and of course it was outside and did that destruction. It is very hurtful."

The Pitt County Sheriff's Office is investigating the break-in. The church says they are contacting their insurance to see if they will cover this loss.

To: John, HUH? Your post makes no sense whatsoever. V was making a point to Goober that stealing from a church is no different than from an individual. We all should be concerned about the thefts hitting many neighborhoods in Eastern NC. V is right, when you steal/rob a church, you are indeed stealing from many. Now you wake up & pay YOUR bills.

V: Wake up and go pay your bills. There is no doubt from your statements that you are heavily in debt. And guess what, nobody is even stealing from you.....

Goober you make some what of a point. But I want to ask you this. What mortal being is there to protect it 24/7?I have not been to church since I was 9 or 10 years old except for weddings and or funerals. What makes it worse in my eyes is that SO Many people put there % of money in their place of worship and they(thieves) steal from them all.If you have a church of 15 you steal from 15.If you have a church a 100 or more that is the amount you steal from.

My mother had a heating unit torn to peices for this near Calico not long ago. They are also targeting houses that are for sale with real estate signs in front, especially if they belong o the elderly. I am especially hurt about Sweet Gum Grove because I attended church there as a child. There is a special place in hell for people who do things like this to churches and the elderly. If one scrapyard owner had the book thrown at them for buying stolen property, this would stop quick.

Stealing from a church is not any worse than stealing from anywhere else. If God resides within you, does not that make your house also God's house. God did not say to Moses, Thou shall not steal from my house; He said "THOU SHALl NOT STEAL". In my opinion, that makes it just as bad to steal from anyone. I guess that the reporting of theft from individuals has become Ho-Hum and theft from a church is now the only thing that garners sensationalism in the news.

Thieves learn their trade on Churches. Athens in Bath had AC units stolen during the day about 2 months ago.

We found out this morning that thieves hit our church last night in the Blounts Creek as well dismantling our two A/C units too. When you steal from a church that is pretty cowardly and low. God will take care of them though.
