CAUGHT ON CAMERA: Gunman Shoots Out Restaurant Door

For the second time this month a gunman has robbed a Sonic Drive-In Restaurant in Greenville by first shooting out the front door.

It happened again late Thursday night at the Sonic on Greenville Boulevard around 11:40 p.m.

Police released dramatic surveillance video on Friday. In the video you can see the gunman fire multiple times at the front door as he is running across the parking lot. His rifle jams and then the gunman fired again before climbing through the shattered glass front door.

You can watch the entire video by clicking the link above.

The video shows six frightened employees running as the gunman made his way to where the money was kept. He laid his rifle on the floor while grabbing money from the counter and a cash drawer from what appeared to be a safe. The robber then is seen running from the restaurant.

Police say the man was dressed in dark clothing and wearing a bandanna with dollar sign emblems.

Since the end of July, there have now been four robberies at this restaurant and another Sonic on South Memorial Drive.

If you have information on this robbery, you should call the Greenville Police Department at 252-329-4315 or Pitt Greenville Crime Stoppers 252-758-7777.

What people don't realize is that, the sonic employees aren't just standing there watching the man take all the money from off of the desk and the safe.....Sonic may be small, but not as small as many think....what this video doesn't show is the part where the employees run all the way to the back of the building to i repeat the employees aren't just standing there watching the robber take the money....but are still running to safety as the robber is taking the money...and the last guy with the bookbag on has nothing to do with it...he just happens to be last and wants to make sure that everyone is okay

IT doesn't take a rocket scientist to determine that this was an inside job. He knows where the cameras are. He knows the schedule of when they count down the money. He knows where all the money and cash drawers are. He knows the layout of the "back office" area of the restaurant. Inside job...

Its an inside job. The last employee running inside sure didn't look to scared. He even had his book bag on. I think he is helping the robber and is letting him know when is the time to strike.

it's obvious someone is asleep here on this issue; sonic needs to hire a security guard (armed) first and last one of the employees is going to get hurt

he moves athletically and his movements are with purpose--not like someone who is frantic--as if he had this mapped out in his head prior. if the video surveillance is constant at sonic they should be looking for someone who works there or used to work there with the same mannerisms--and theres a sort of dance people do when they are working to keep operations flowing. he simply used his gun to b/e and scare workers--not shoot @, and left it on the floor like he didnt intend on using it anymore--his intention was $ only--he wouldnt want to harm people he knew. if it was an inside job, he would be worried about being seen on the surveillance--he has excellent coverage, two facial coverings. long gloves and long sleeves, his neck is covered-which is what would be seen overhead. he was elated that he got out of there without killing anyone or being caught and figured he better not take his chances by cleaning up after his bullets, just get out of there. csi addict, i know!

It has been edited look at the last part when he is running away. His image ghosts and jumps back into the parking lot while the time keeps going forward. He is not necessarily white either it is a white t-shirt under the black you are seeing.

Thank God no one got hurt. Again a staged robbery. I agree with person that comment about the loud noise. I would have already been running. Plus this is a rifle not a handgun. He could not pick up the rifle fast enough to shoot anyone. He was too busy with the money. It was not about minimal wage to me it would have been about putting a criminal behind bars. Next time someone could get hurt.

Like Ex Sonic Employee noted, it looks like this guy worked at that Sonic or another one before. He didn't have to think twice to find the register drawer on the bottom right, etc. He knows right where everything is and is right on time.

there is no delay or editing of this shows the whole incident as it happened. nothing to suggest it was an inside job either. everyone knows the time to rob a business is right before closing time, it has been robbed 4 times 3 months
