Man Shot During Kinston Robbery

Kinston police are searching for a gunman who shot a man early Friday morning.

Officers say they found Jonas Gooding with a gunshot wound to his leg on Stadiem Drive around 1:40 a.m.

Gooding told police he was walking down the street when two men, one walking and another on a bicycle, approached him. He said the man walking pulled out a handgun and forced Gooding to lay face down on the street. The robbers then went through the man's pockets and took some cash. Gooding says he was then shot.

If anyone has information on this robbery and shooting they should call Kinston Public Safety at 939-3160 or Lenoir County Crime Stoppers at 523-4444.

Coolchange, sad thing is, I was talking to a man last night that lives in East Kinston and is afraid to go to Greenville after dark.

Well, this happened in one of those places in Kinston that you don't go through without being armed. Even in broad daylight. If Kinston isn't the armpit, then it's a little bit lower I guess. The streets are running over with thugs and wannabes.

Onslow County is the arm pit of eastern NC. We worked hard for the distinction, earned it, deserve it and we ain't giving it up.

Kevin, If Kinston is the armpit I'm sure you can't get what G'ville is past the moderators. EVERY town in eastern NC has a part of town you'd likely be too scared to go into during daylight hours. Greenville has five. Go hang out on Tobacco Rd. (or whatever they renamed it to after deciding 7-8 Tobacco Rd crimes in every newspaper lokoed bad) tonight and report back how much nicer it is in Greenville.

I hate it for the victim. That said, who is crazy enough to walk around Kinston at 1:40 in the morning. That is the armpit of east carolina.
