Playground To Serve As A Model For Child Care Facilities

A new playground that meets accessibility codes as outlined by the Americans with Disabilities Act opened in Greenville Wednesday to serve as a model for child care facilities and schools in the region.

The East Carolina University child development laboratory held a ribbon cutting ceremony for its new "Little Tikes Commercial Playground" Wednesday afternoon.

The new playground is located at the Thomas W. Rivers Building.

Organizers say the playground is handicapped accessible, so all kids can enjoy it. They say there's a special swing that can accommodate all kids, along with mulch pathways to cushion any falls and a handicapped accessible stage area for puppet shows.

The model playground is a collaboration between ECU's department of child development and family relations and Little Tikes commercial.

Is the playground for children in the community or just for children enrolled in the child care program on campus?
