Pitt County School Board Votes On Replacement

A local school board has filled a seat left vacant with a member's untimely death.

Pitt County School Board Member Michael Dixon died July 31. The 54-year-old had been on the school board for 18 years.

Dr. Matthew Ward was selected among four candidates Monday night to represent District 1 Seat A through December 2010

Ward, a Greenville Native, is the pastor of Haddocks UAFWB Church in Winterville. He worked for Pitt County Schools as a Quality Control Supervisor from 1984-1994 and as an In-School Suspension Coordinator from 1994-2006.

He will be sworn into office at the next Board of Education meeting in September.
