"Fill The Boot" For A Good Cause

Members of the Greenville and Winterville fire departments met at the University Commons in Greenville for the annual 'Fill the Boot' event.
Procedes from the fundraiser go toward the muscular dystrophy association.

Its an event some of these men hold very close to their heart. Event organizer Fred Baxter explains how a little girl named Emma that visited the fire station helped inspire the drive.

He says, "She came in and she just melted everyone's heart. And we see what just the little things that they need when you have a condition like hers. I mean getting a flu shot, going to the doctor stuff like that, it just drains a family and us coming out here spending 12 or 14 hours of our life and we can raise 10-000 dollars so they dont have to worry about stuff like that its just wonderful for us,"

The goal is to raise $10,000 dollars this weekend. The firefighters will be out again Sunday from 10 a-m until 5 p-m.

I'm Emma's mother. I'd like to thank all the firemen that were out there this weekend braving the heat for Emma and all the other kids with the MDA. It means the world to me! Emma had so much fun at camp this year and looks forward to going back next year. Thanks for much for making this happen for her! I'd also like to thank everyone that came out and donated.

Emma is one of many children affected by SMA. She is a inspiration to us all! Thanks to the local fire departments she got to go to camp this summer and had a great time. It was a time to forget about her disabilities and have fun! Please get out and "Fill the Boot" today!!! It will help children like Emma!

I personally know this little girl, Emma. She is a precious and adroable child that will never have a chance to do what healthy 6-year old girls can do unless a cure is found for SMA. Thanks to all that put their time and energy for this fundraiser that is very near and dear to my heart and thanks to all the people that donated money for this cause. God be with you all and lets keep on praying that a cure will be found.
