Pitt County investigators say a 71-year-old man is recovering tonight after being shot three times by his estranged wife Friday afternoon.
Chief investigator James Tripp says 68-year-old Betty Stancil has been charged with assault with a deadly weapon inflicting serious injury with intent to kill.
Tripp says Stancil reportedly shot her husband, Jesse Stancil, in the chest, arm, and rear-end. He says Stancil then drove himself to the hospital where he was treated for his wounds.
Stancil is being held in the Pitt County Detention Center with no bond. No word yet on the motive for the shooting.
