Greenville Is Playful City USA 2010!

Playful City USA 2010: it's the honor one city in the east has received among some other big name contenders.

The non-profit organization Kaboom! recognized Greenville and its Recreation and Parks Department for placing an emphasis on making sure kids have plenty of outlets for play time.

Kaboom's mission works hand in hand with First Lady Michelle Obama's lets move campaign that focuses on reducing childhood obesity.

Also recognized in our state were Greensboro, Durham, Albemarle, and Sanford.

What a joke. Greenville needs to buy itself an award to make seem like a nice place to live. How about buying some more law enforcement to clean up our mean streets.

Shouldn't this article say that Greenvile is ONE of the MANY Playful Cities USA 2010 since there are about 500 on the entire list?

I don't know about spending more money on parks that are utilized. However, Kaboom is a non-profit org "Tim." Their goal is to get kids to play more by building more playgrounds or refurbishing existing ones. I don't think "if you build it, they will come," applies anymore. If we get it all donated, we will still have pay for its' upkeep. I'd like to know if our current parks are even being justify their existence.

Playgrounds and parks are antiques from a bygone era when people actually went to them. Hardly anyone uses our parks.

Can we spend another million dollars to build and upkeep more playgrounds (that are so rarely used)? Of course, the "company" giving Greenville the award or recognition is the one selling the playground equipment....Cha-Ching!
