More charges are coming against a Greenville man who is accused of trying to rob a motel and snatching a woman's purse in Kinston.
Tarboro police say they are going to charge Jonathan Williams with a purse snatching that happened at their WalMart. Police say Williams drove up beside the woman in his vehicle and grabbed her purse in the parking lot.
Williams was arrested yesterday after Kinston police say he did the same thing at their Walmart last week. Authorities say Williams is also being investigated for a similar crime at the WalMart in New Bern.
A suspect wanted for two different crimes in one local city has been arrested in another county for violation of probation.
Kinston Police say 45 year old Jonathan Williams tried to rob the Econo-Lodge on August 7th and on August 15th, is accused of snatching a 66 year old woman's purse in from of Walmart.
Williams was already in custody for a probation violation in Greenville.
Police say a Lenoir County Crime Stoppers tip provided information that led to Williams' arrest.
Kinston police say a motel armed robbery attempt and a purse snatching appear to be done by the same man.
The first case happened August 7th at the EconoLodge on Highway 70. The man pointed a handgun at the clerk and demanded money. The clerk threw a stapler at the gunman and he left without any money. The gunman left in a white SUV that appeared to be an Isuzu Rodeo with a luggage rack and sunroof.
Then on Sunday morning a man driving a white Isuzu Rodeo SUV snatched a purse from a 66-year-old woman in the Wal-Mart parking lot. The woman fell and was injured. Surveillance video shows the SUV sitting in the parking lot for a substantial amount of time before the theft. Witnesses say the SUV possibly had a Virginia plate with the last four digits of 1445.
