ENC Home Becomes Bait For Craigslist Scam

It appears one Eastern Carolina home has become a would be tool for a scam on Craigslist

An ad on the popular sellers website lists a Greenville home as being for rent for 900 dollars a month. The problem? The home is not for rent, but for sale.

Arlington Properties is in charge of selling the home and says that they have nothing to do with the ad and that it's a scam looking to prey on potential renters. Broker Robert O'neal says the ad certainly disguises itself well

O'neal says people looking to rent from these advertisements should always do their best to find out about the seller saying that they are out to get people most desperate for living space.

I saw a similar Craig's List ad for another house and checked on it myself. It had the same text in the ad as the one in the video. This one had no For Sale sign in the yard and the owner was not considering selling or renting. Caveat Emptor.

There is also a house in Jacksonville posted on Craigslist that is a scam. We emailed about it and got an email back telling us to send him money and trust in God. They wanted $700 a month and $500 deposit. We called a rental agent in Jacksonville and they said NO the house was renting right now for $1600 a month. When I emailed back I asked if it was a scam and told them the FBI wanted their information and sure enough we never got an email back. Be careful this person told us he was military and his wife didn't care about money just wanted trust worthy people to rent. But they wanted the money ASAP and then they would give out keys. That was a red flag for me.

Well, track down the scammers and publicly execute 'em in the town square. Problem solved.
