Area first responders answered a different type of "call for help" Monday in Greenville.
The Highway Patrol, Greenville Fire and Rescue, and the Pitt County Sheriff's Office teamed up with Greenville Utilities, Pitt County Schools and the Department of Social Services to help the Salvation Army gather toys for kids in need.
Pitt County Operation Santa Claus collected thousands of new toys over a month's time for kids of all ages.
The Salvation Army will spend the next two days distributing the toys to more than 600 families and 1,400 kids from across Pitt County.
The Salvation Army is also holding a coat drive for kids in need. They say you can donate gently used and new coats at the Salvation Army location on Memorial Drive.
