A suspect has been arrested by law enforcement at the state line for a Tyrrell County bank robbery that took place Friday afternoon.
Law enforcement arrested 47-year-old Walter Eugene Jones of Wanchese. The Tyrrell County Sheriff's Office says Jones is responsible for the armed robbery of the BB&T Bank in Tyrrell County based Columbia, November 9th. Surveillance photos of the robbery were issued following that holdup.
Jones is charged with Robbery with a Dangerous Weapon, and Assault by pointing a gun.
Officials say Jones was arrested at the North Carolina / Virginia line Saturday night by agents with the North Carolina Alcohol Law Enforcement.
We’re told that the Currituck County Sheriff’s Office, NC Highway Patrol and Chesapeake Virginia Police Department assisted in the arrest.
Officials say Jones is in the Currituck County Detention Center under a one million dollar bond.
The search is on for a man caught on camera during an attempted bank robbery in Tyrrell County.
