A state probation officer is accused of trying to have sex with a woman client during an interview.
Dare County deputies have charged Thomas Kennedy of Kill Devil Hills with attempted sex offense by employee of governmental institution, misdemeanor sexual battery and sex offense by employee of government institution.
The 31-year-old Kennedy was first arrested last Thursday on two charges, and then arrested again on Monday on another charge. Deputies say a woman on probation told them Kennedy initiated improper contact with her during an interview.
Kennedy has a May 15th court date and was released on bond. The Department of Public Safety says they initiated an internal investigation last Wednesday and currently Kennedy is on personal leave. They say when he returns to work, Kennedy will be on administrative reassignment and told to report to the district office in Elizabeth City.
He's been a state probation officer since June 2010.
