Sea Level Bill Becomes Law

Important news for coastal residents or for people who have property there; a bill that delays planning for rising sea levels will become law in our state.

Governor Perdue said she will allow the sea level rise bill, which has been the source of some controversy, to become law by not vetoing it. Some critics worry the bill will put homes and businesses on the coast and in low-lying areas at risk of flooding.

The bill was backed by coastal developers, according to a report by Reuters, and it calls for additional study on climate change data and blocks state agencies from making sea level change policies until 2016.
