Tideland Electric says it will shut down a substation to replace equipment that caused an outage Wednesday morning.
The utility says it will shut down its Mattamuskeet substation at 2:00 p.m. for the repair.
Some 2,000 customers, including Mattamuskeet Elementary School and Mattamuskeet Early College High School, were affected by the outage around 10:17 a.m. The power company was able to return power about a half-hour later, but says the substation will have to be shut down to make permanent repairs.
The planned outage is expected to last around 30 minutes.
A power outage forced school officials to dismiss school early in Hyde County.
All students and staff were scheduled to be dismissed at 11 a.m. Wednesday.
