"Operation Pharos" Checks On Sex Offenders

Four counties in Eastern Carolina joined forces with the U.S. Marshal Service to make sure registered sex offenders are living where they say they are.

U.S. Marshal Scotty Parker says most of the 95 registered sex offenders living in Dare, Hyde, Tyrrell and Washington counties were where they are supposed to be.

"Operation Pharos" began on Tuesday. So far, four men have been arrested, including Gregory Richardson of Duck, who was arrested on an outstanding warrant charging him with failing to report a change of address.

Registered sex offender Eric Sykes of Columbia who was charged for having two firearms. Lawmen also tracked down those with outstanding warrants who are not sex offenders, like 40-year-old Marcus Shaw of Englehard and 29 -year-old Martin Hardy Jr. of Manteo.

Washington County Sheriff James Ross James Ross says, "You hear all these stories from all these other states of sex offenders doing crimes of all kind of natures and I just want my people to feel safe that we are doing what we are supposed to do to make sure that they are safe."
