The Ocracoke Pony herd has a new member.
The National Park Service recently adopted "Alonso", a three year old registered Spanish stallion from the Corolla Wild Horse herd.
"Alonso" was transported to Ocracoke on February 2nd, joining 17 other horses in the Ocracoke herd.
Legend says the "Banker" horse were left by shipwrecked explorers in the 16th or 17th century. The Park Service says at one point there were as many as 300 horses on Ocracoke.
