Power has been restored to Ocracoke Island in Hyde County.
Tideland Electric Membership Corporation says what appears to be a water spout or a tornado broke two transmission poles north of the pony pens along Highway 12 on Ocracoke Island.
The enitre island lost power around 12:20 a.m. and it wasn't restored until just after 9:00 a.m.
Work to replace the poles was slowed because of persistent windy weather.
