National Park Service Closing Facilities Due To Hurricane

The National Park Service says it's closing some facilities on the Outer Banks because of Hurricane Sandy.

The Ocracoke Campground will close at noon on Saturday and remain closed for the season. All other campgrounds have already closed for the year.

All National Park Visitor Centers including Ocracoke Visitor Center, Hatteras Island, Bodie Island and Wright Brothers and Fort Raleigh Visitor Centers will remain open until close of business Saturday and will remain closed until further notice.

Due to forecasted strong northeasterly gale force winds, storm surges, high lunar tides and rough ocean conditions, park beaches will be closed to off-road vehicles by 5:00 p.m. on Saturday and remain closed until further notice.
