Hurricane Sandy Damage, Power Outage And Road Reports

While no major damage has been reported as of 11 p.m. Saturday, there are some reports of trees down and ocean issues.


CARTERET COUNTY

All bridges in the county are currently open.

Emergency Management in Carteret County reports flooding in Sea Level.

A tree was reported down in Stella, and there was minor flooding across downeast portions. We checked in with fire officials in Harlowe. As of 10 p.m. Saturday, there was no serious flooding in that low-lying area, but water was building up along some roadways.

Minor flooding was reported on the highway between Cedar Island and Sea Level, and water was approaching road on Highway 70 near East Carteret High School.

Alert from officials: Low lying roadways, particularly in down eastern portions of the county (NC 12, SR 1300) are prone to wind blown tidal flooding, and can be expected to be over topped at anytime. Water levels can rise suddenly. Travel is not recommended. If you must be on the road, drive with extreme caution. Currently roadways are all open with only minor localized tidal flooding.


CRAVEN COUNTY

There was a of report of a large tree down in Craven County, but no property damage was reported.

There is flooding near Union Point Park in New Bern, an area that typically floods when the impacts of a tropical system target our coastline.


DARE COUNTY

Ocean overwash has been reported between Frisco and Hatteras on Highway 12 in Dare County, as well as in Rodanthe and South Nags Head. Highway 12 is closed south of the Oregon Inlet bridge.

In Southern Shores, a few trees were reported down. They were blocking roads, but the trees have been removed.

There were sporadic power outages reported, but it has been indicated the power is back on.


HYDE COUNTY

About 14 people are without power in Swan Quarter, according to Tideland EMC.


JONES COUNTY

500 people were without power as of Sunday morning.
