A high school principal who was charged with DWI this past weekend is taking annual leave while the school district investigates what happened.
Randy Millar, principal at Mattamuskeet High School in Hyde County, was arrested Saturday afternoon by state troopers. They say the man was driving a county-owned vehicle when it wrecked on U.S. 264 near Swan Quarter.
The Highway Patrol says the 57-year-old's blood alcohol content was .11, while .08 is considered drunk driving in the state.
Superintendent Dr. Randolph Latimore says Millar, who became principal at the beginning of this school year, is out on annual leave as the school system reviews the situation.
Millar has a March 6th court date on the DWI charge.

The Highway Patrol say Millar was traveling on US 264 E near Swan Quarter around 12:45 p.m. Saturday, when he took a curve too fast, crossed the center line, over-corrected and crashed into an utility pole before coming to rest in grassy area, near a pond.
They say the 2001 Ford Crown Victoria Millar was driving belongs to the Hyde County School Board and received damage to the driver's side fender.
In a statement, Superintendent Dr. Randolph Latimore says the school system is reviewing the situation and that Millar will not be returning to the school, pending the outcome of their investigation.
Hyde County Schools would not say whether Millar was suspended from his job or is taking voluntary time away from his job.
Millar has a March 6th court date.
