Dispatchers said firefighters were working to knock down flames at a strip mall in Dare County Tuesday morning.
Crews were called to the Chesley Mall off Highway 64 for the fire.
Police Chief Vance Haskett tells WITN he got the call around 5:30 Tuesday morning.
According to Haskett, the blaze was contained to a Hispanic food store in the middle of the strip mall. While that store is a total loss, Chief Haskett said the other businesses suffered smoke damage.
There is a post office, a DMV office for license plates and tags, a Subway Restaurant, and Advanced Auto store are among the businesses at that strip mall.
Haskett said there is no word if the other businesses will open on Tuesday.
No one was hurt during the fire and the fire marshal is working to find the cause of the fire now.
