The U.S. Coast Guard says it will convene a formal hearing on the sinking of the HMS Bounty.
The tall ship sunk in October approximately 90 miles off Cape Hatteras as Hurricane Sandy stormed up the Atlantic. The captain's body was never recovered, while another crewmember died after being found. Fourteen other people on the sailing ship were rescued by the Coast Guard.
The National Transportation Safety Board will join the Coast Guard in the hearing that begins on February 12th in Portsmouth, Virginia. The investigation will examine the circumstances relating to the sinking of the Bounty, as well as developing conclusions and recommendations to improve safety on other sailing ships.
