The Coast Guard is searching for a missing teenage kayaker near Kitty Hawk on the Outer Banks.
Officials say Currituck County 911 contacted the coast guard around 7:25 p.m. reporting that a 14-year-old had borrowed a friend's kayak around 10 a.m. That kayak was found around 11 a.m. with only a cell phone and fishing gear aboard.
Watchstanders issued an urgent marine information broadcast and dispatched crews aboard a 25-foot response boat from Coast Guard Station Oregon Inlet, as well as a MH-60 Jayhawk helicopter crew from Elizabeth City to assist.
The Currituck County Sheriff's Office is assisting in a shoreside search.
The teen was said to have not been wearing a life jacket or shirt and was wearing dark blue denim shorts.
