The U.S. Coast Guard suspended its search Thursday for a man who was reported overdue while aboard a 15-foot zodiac boat near Wanchese on January 31.

A concerned friend of Jeffrey McCusker's contacted watchstanders at Coast Guard Station Oregon Inlet in Nags Head Tuesday and reported the missing man's vehicle had been left at the Mill Landing Road Boat Ramp in Wanchese since January 31.

Dare County Sherriff's office located the missing man's wallet and driver's license in the vehicle.

The Coast Guard used a helicopter and boat to search for the man before calling off the search.

PREVIOUS STORY:

The U.S. Coast Guard began a search today for a Dare County boater who was last seen nearly as week ago.

Dare County deputies say on Tuesday they received a report of an unattended vehicle and boat trailer sitting at the Mill Landing Road boat ramp in Wanchese. Jeffrey McCusker's wallet and driver's license were found in the vehicle.

Witnesses say the boat and trailer was first seen at the ramp last Thursday.

The Coast Guard is using an MH-60 Jayhawk helicopter from Elizabeth City and a 24-foot shallow water vessel from Oregon Inlet to search for the 51-year-old man. They say McCusker may be in his 15-foot Zodiac boat.

Deputies are asking people in the Wanchese area and surrounding waters to be on the lookout for McCusker and his boat.
