One man deputies say was seen carrying a safe out of a business is now under arrest.
The Currituck County Sheriff's Office says 27-year-old Brian Powell of Kill Devil Hills was arrested Thursday night in Rockingham County.
Sheriff Susan Johnson says Powell is accused of breaking into the Currituck BBQ Company and stealing the safe.
Powell is charged with Felony Breaking and Entering, Felony Larceny and Safecracking. His bond was set at $30,000.
Two other people were caught on the surveillance video. Sheriff Johnson says their identities are still under investigation.
Another safe has been stolen from an Eastern Carolina business after burglars broke in through a side door.
Currituck County deputies say the Currituck BBQ Company in Coinjock was burglarized and was discovered around 8:25 a.m. Monday.
Investigators say around 12:40 a.m. three people forced open the door and disturbed nothing other than the safe, which was located in the office area.
Surveillance video show a woman and two men leaving the restaurant, with one of the men carrying out the safe.
Deputies say the burglars appear to be in the 20 to 30 years of age. The woman appears to be white, short with a slight build, and wearing a unique coat. One of the men appears to be black with a goatee and possible cornrows. The race of the other burglar is undetermined.
A news release asks anyone noticing someone with large sums of money that they normally wouldn't have to notify deputies.
