The controversial Amendment 1, which passed with 61% of the vote on Tuesday, had widespread support across much of Eastern Carolina.
Only in Dare County (52% for, 48% against) did the amendment come close to losing.
Carteret County had the widest margin, 81% in favor, 19% opposed. Both Duplin and Tyrrell counties showed 78% for, 22% against.
In Pitt County, the spread was 62% to 38%, while in Craven and Washington counties it was 64% to 36%.
The Amendment received 71% support in Beaufort, Martin and Jones Counties with 29% of voters casting "no" votes in each of the counties. Lenoir County voted 72 to 28% in favor while the amendment garnered 73% support in both Bertie and Onslow Counties.
The constitutional amendment defining marriage solely as a union between a man and also voids other types of domestic unions from carrying legal status.
Only in seven North Carolina counties did the amendment lose. Four of those were in the Triangle region (Wake, Durham, Chatham & Orange), along with Mecklenburg County, Buncombe County and Watauga County.
