University Gets Nearly A Million To Help Homeowners

A local college in the east gets nearly a million dollars to help the less fortunate find affordable housing.

Congressman G.K. Butterfield's office made the announcement Friday that the Community Development Program at Elizabeth City State University in Elizabeth City was awarded the $800,000 grant.

The money will be used to help rehabilitate 30 owner occupied homes and assist 50 first time home buyers with up to $3000 dollars towards their down payment among other things.

The congressman says he wants to make sure that low to moderate income people have access to affordable housing.
