A trucked loaded with Corona Beer overturned Wednesday morning after troopers say it collided with an empty ice truck.
State troopers say the crash closed down four-lane Highway 168 in Currituck County for most of the day.
Troopers say one of the big rigs made a left turn into the path of the other truck, just north of Highway 34.
Neither of the drivers were seriously hurt, but the crash closed the highway until around 2:45 p.m.
An accident involving two tractor trailers closed Highway 168 in Currituck County Wednesday.
The D.O.T. says the wreck is just north of Highway 34 and for several hours closed all lanes of the highway.
As of 1:45 p.m., the vehicles have been removed from the roadway. But authorities say due to the necessary hazardous materials cleanup, traffic flow along Highway 168 will continue to be interrupted.
Cleanup is expected to take another 2 to 3 hours and the following traffic pattern will be observed until complete:
Southbound traffic on Highway 168 in Currituck County will be allowed to pass through with no diversion. However, motorists will be slowed as they pass the accident scene approximately 1,000 yds north of the 168 & 34 intersection.
Northbound motorists on 168 will be diverted onto Poyner’s Road approximately ¼ mile south of the 168 – 34 intersection. From Poyner’s Road, motorists will turn left onto Tulls Creek Road and follow Tulls Creek Rd. until it rejoins Highway 168 in Moyock.
The Highway Patrol said one of the tractor trailers overturned.
There is no immediate word whether anyone is injured in the crash.
