High Winds Shut Down Two Pamlico Sound Ferry Routes

High winds have again closed ferry service here in Eastern Carolina.

The D.O.T. has suspended the remainder of Tuesday's runs for the Cedar Island to Ocracoke route and the Swan Quarter to Ocracoke ferry.

Sustained winds of 38 miles per hour and higher gusts have created unsafe conditions to maneuver the ferries into the terminals.

The ferry system hopes to have full service back on Wednesday.

Yesterday high winds and rough water shut down the Cherry Branch-Minnesott Beach ferry route.
