Another case of rabies has been found in Eastern Carolina and this time the rabid animal killed a dog.
The Hyde County Health Department confirmed the county's first case of the year.
On Wednesday a dog was attacked and killed by a raccoon at a home on North Lake Road. The raccoon was killed by the dog's owner and then sent to the state lab for testing.
Rabies is a fatal disease, so if you're bitten by a stray animal contact a physician immediately.
