Beach Battle Goes Back To Court

A federal judge has called a hearing for an update on the status of a settlement agreement between environmentalists and beach access advocates over driving on North Carolina's Outer Banks.

U.S. District Court Judge Terrence Boyle scheduled the hearing for Thursday morning in Elizabeth City.

The hearing comes after a committee abandoned its efforts to agree on an off-road vehicle plan for Cape Hatteras National Seashore after more than a year of meetings. Now, the park superintendent will devise the plan

A court-sanctioned agreement closed some beaches to pedestrians and vehicles during the nesting months for endangered birds and sea
turtles last year.
