More Video...

The wife of one of two men killed in a suspected knife fight this summer is being held on a $1 million dollar bond for the murder of one of the men.

19-year-old Bekka Shellhammer made her first court appearance Wednesday for the murder of Christopher Stewart. The man died in a fight that also killed Shellhammer's husband in July on North Topsail Beach.

District Attorney Ernie Lee says Shellhammer will not face the death penalty if convicted.

A medical examiner's report says both men died after being stabbed in the neck.

Previous Story
The wife of one of two men killed in a suspected knife fight this summer has been charged in one of those deaths.

Originally, authorities said it was believed that Robert Shellhammer IV and Christopher Stewart had stabbed each other at North Topsail Beach in July.

But Tuesday afternoon they charged 19-year-old Bekka Shellhammer with the murder of Stewart. She was arrested around 2:00 p.m. at her home in Sneads Ferry.

A medical examiner's report says both men died after being stabbed in the neck.

Deputies and North Topsail Beach police have been investigating the deaths and yesterday they presented evidence to District Attorney Ernie Lee who agreed there was enough evidence to charge the woman with murder.

Shellhammer is being held without bond and will face a judge Wednesday morning.
