U.S. Navy Surgeon General Tours Upgraded Camp Lejeune Naval Hospital

The U.S. Navy Surgeon General and Chief of the Navy's Bureau of Medicine and Surgery, Vice Admiral Matt Nathan, got a firsthand look at the revamped Naval Hospital at Camp Lejeune.

The $78 million construction at Camp Lejeune Naval Hospital is in its second phase and is expected to be finished by January of 2015.

Vice Admiral Matt Nathan checked the new health offerings, including mental health, general surgery and pain management. It's all to help the next wave of service members who are coming home from the war. Nathan says,"They have really looked at best bang for the buck in getting the latest and greatest equipment that has been proven to make the best difference in healing and then you add to that the compassion and the professionalism and dedication of this medical crew you've got a winning combination."

The Naval Hospital cares for more than 120,000 people on and around Camp Lejeune and New River.
