Troopers said a man was walking near his Onslow County home before dawn Friday when he was hit and left on the dark road.
Trooper Jamie Kirk with the Onslow County Highway Patrol said he got the call at 5:20 a.m. for a pedestrian hit and run on Blue Creek Road near the intersection of Pony Farm Road.
Investigators said the victim, 27-year-old Larry Joiner, said he was walking along the shoulder of Blue Creek Road when he was hit from behind and saw tail lights speeding away.
Troopers said the man called his mother for help initially, and she called 911 to report the hit and run.
Joiner was taken to Onslow Memorial Hospital with non-life threatening injuries.
Trp. Kirk said for now, there is no description of the vehicle that took off other than a newer model compact car.
If you were in the area and saw anything you are asked to call the Highway Patrol's Jacksonville office at (910) 347-1751.
