A state trooper flipped his cruiser while chasing a speeding motorcycle from one county to another this weekend.
The Highway Patrol says it happened Sunday afternoon on Highway 53 near Maple Hill.
Trooper R.D. Hendrickson tried to stop the motorcycle in Pender County, and chased it into Onslow County where the cycle slowed down for other traffic. The trooper hit his brakes, but the back of his cruiser slid around and he ran off the road, struck a ditch and crashed into a telephone pole guy-wire before flipping over once.
The motorcyclist stopped and the uninjured troopers arrested him.
Tyson Payton was charged with driving 92 miles per hour in a 55 m.p.h. zone as well as careless and reckless driving.
The 20-year-old posted bond and was released from the Pender County jail.
