A busy road in Onslow County is open once again, after being closed for several hours this morning.
Gum Branch Road was closed for about four hours because of the 5:00 a.m. accident near Timothy Road. That crash caused downed power lines which delayed reopening the road.
State troopers have charged Corporal Sean Brandt with DWI after the single vehicle accident. Trooper T.W. McCoy says Brandt's blood alcohol content was .09. In North Carolina, .08 is the legal limit.
Trooper McCoy says the car was coming from Jacksonville and ran off the road to the right, into power lines. The Marine from Camp Lejeune was taken to the Naval Hospital with with non-life-threatening injuries.
An early morning car accident has led to the closure of a busy street in Onslow County. It's also causing a local power outage.
Onslow County Emergency Management officials say Gum Branch Rd. is closed because of downed power lines. The wreck happened where Gum Branch intersects with Timothy, which is between Jacksonville and Richlands, around 5 a.m.
Originally, officials told WITN they think it would take until 9 a.m. to open the road back up because of the power line that came down. However, the latest estimate is 10 a.m.
Trooper E.W. McCoy says a car coming from Jacksonville ran off the road to the right into power lines. He was taken to the Naval Hospital with with non-life-threatening injuries. The Highway Patrol says the driver, whose name has not been released, is being charged with DWI.
The power outage is between Timothy Rd. and Howard Rd.
