An Onslow County school student's speech has won a regional prize, and she now moves on to national competition.
Annabelle Davis, a student at Swansboro Middle School, seen on the far right in the picture, will move on to the final level of competition in the Modern Woodmen's School Speech contest this July.
In the regional competition, Davis topped fellow Swansboro Middle classmate Emma Whitfield, pictured in the center, and Peyton Redmyer, a Dixon Elementary student, seen on the left.
A Modern Woodmen spokesperson said this years topic, "The Importance of Healthy Living," was one of the hardest students had been given because it gave them so much to think about.
The top three places at the national competition receive savings plans between 1 and $2,000 with Modern Woodmen.
