A woman who was manager of a lighting store is accused stealing from the business and then trying to twice set fire to it.
Hope Riggs of Hubert turned herself into Cape Carteret police Monday. The 37-year-old woman is charged with two counts of arson and one count of embezzlement.
Police say Riggs was manager of Seashore Lighting, and twice tried to set fire to the business.
Detective Ethan Born says an April 10th fire did minimal damage, and the next day he says Riggs drove her car around back and set it on fire.
Born says the owner of the business started going through the books and found there was $62,000 missing over a four year period.
Riggs was jailed on a $75,000 bond.
