UPDATE: Sleeping Driver Charged After Sideswiping Police Car

A woman has been charged after troopers say she fell asleep and hit a Jacksonville police cruiser.

Troopers said the woman had been driving all night from New York state to get to Camp Lejeune, where her husband is stationed.

The wreck happened around 6:30 a.m. on Highway 258.

The Highway Patrol says 21-year-old Victoria Spurling of Jacksonville fell asleep at the wheel. Troopers said she was traveling alongside a Jacksonville patrol car, driven by Officer Ryan Jones, when she veered out of her lane, sideswiping the cruiser.

No injuries were reported. Troopers said the driver's side mirror was taken off and a tire scuff left on his patrol car door, while Spurling's passenger rearview mirror was cracked.

Troopers have charged Spurling with failure to maintain lane control.
