Veterans in Jacksonville were honored with a special visitor Tuesday night.
It wasn't a person, but the Rolling Thunder "Flame of Freedom" making its first ever stop in the east.
The flame travels from the west coast to Washington, D.C. every year leading up to Memorial Day weekend. Rolling Thunder calls the flame a symbol. "It lights the way home for your brothers and sisters in arms. It crosses this great country to tell everyone the Soldier stands with pride and honor to keep us free and we keep the light burning to show the way home. The light does not cast a shadow for its sole purpose is to send the message of hope, to let everyone know we will not forget."
Hundreds of people attended the event at the Vietnam Memorial, Lejeune Memorial Gardens, which lasted about an hour and a half.
The flame is expected to reach Washington, D.C. sometime on Friday.
