A year later and many areas continue to rebuild after tornadoes swept through the east, including the Piney Green area of Onslow County.
The homes on Charles Road in Onslow County look new after being rebuilt following the tornado. There are still some open plots of land ready and waiting for a new home. Fresh sprouting trees take the place of the old oaks that toppled after the storms. And the rebuilding is nearly complete for some homeowners like Steve Fisher. "So far so good- no thanks to FEMA. I spent most of my savings, so I'm poorer now, but I've got a nice house."
Fisher says there are a few finishing touches left for his home, but it's fully functional.
