Onslow County Animal Services says a fox that attacked and bit a vaccinated pet dog in the Hewitt Road area of Richlands came back positive for rabies.
This is the 2nd positive rabies case involving a domestic animal in Onslow County this year. The dog that was attacked received a booster rabies vaccine.
Alan Davis, Animal Services Director, says that Onslow County Animal Services will increase its surveillance in the rabies alert area and impound any stray cats or dogs.
Individuals are reminded that if they do witness animals exhibiting erratic or unusual behavior to contact animal services immediately at 910-455-0182.
